Plans and billing
What each plan includes, how visits are counted, and how upgrading, downgrading and cancelling work.
Every plan includes heatmaps, fold, scroll and attention maps, and all 29 behaviour patterns, including failed add to cart. Higher plans track and record a larger share of your visitors, keep data longer and run the AI analysis more often.

Once Heatwave has a few days of data, the Plans page estimates your monthly traffic and shows, for each plan, what share of your visitors it would track and record.
What counts as a session
A session is one visitor’s visit: every page they view until they’ve been inactive for 30 minutes. Shoppers who decline tracking aren’t counted.
A recording is a session that is also saved as a replay. Recordings count against both allowances.
This month’s usage
The Plans page shows:
- Tracked sessions, Recorded sessions and Manual AI analyses used this month, against your plan’s limits.
- The date your usage resets. The month follows your billing date, not the calendar month.
- Your coverage right now: the share of visitors being tracked and recorded at the moment.
Adaptive sampling, in plain words
If your store gets more visits than your plan includes, Heatwave doesn’t track everyone until the allowance runs out in week two. Instead it tracks a share of visitors, spread evenly over the month, so you never go blind for the last week.
Every hour, Heatwave looks at your recent traffic and how much of your allowance is left, and adjusts the share. It moves gradually, so one busy hour doesn’t swing it. Each visit is either tracked as a whole or not at all, so you never get half a visit.
This happens automatically with the default Automatic setting. You can set fixed shares yourself in Settings instead.
What happens at the limit
- With Automatic, the allowance is spread over the month, so you shouldn’t reach it. If traffic spikes far beyond what was expected, tracking pauses until the monthly reset.
- With fixed shares that you set yourself, tracking pauses when you reach the limit, until the monthly reset.
Either way, your existing data stays, and the Plans page shows “monthly limit reached” next to your plan name.
Billing
Billing goes through your normal Shopify invoice. There’s nothing extra to set up, and prices are per month.
Upgrading
- Open Plans in Heatwave.
- Click Upgrade to and the plan you want.
- Approve the charge on Shopify’s screen.
The new plan applies as soon as you approve it. A longer data retention applies from the day you upgrade, so data collected before that keeps its old retention.
Downgrading
- To another paid plan: click Switch to and the plan, then approve it in Shopify.
- To Free: click Switch to Free. Your subscription is cancelled with a prorated credit, and Free limits apply straight away.
Cancelling
To stop paying, switch to Free, or uninstall Heatwave. When you uninstall, tracking stops immediately and Shopify ends the app’s subscription. About 48 hours later Shopify tells Heatwave, and all data collected for your store is deleted. See Your data and deletion.
