Your data and deletion
See everything Heatwave stores, how long it's kept, and how it's deleted.
You can see exactly what Heatwave collects about your visitors, and delete it whenever you like.
The Your data page
Open Your data from the Heatwave menu. At the top, two labels sum it up: “Anonymous · consent-based” and how long your plan keeps data.
- What Heatwave collects and What Heatwave never collects: a short summary of each.
- Stored for your store right now: live counts of anonymous visits, recorded visits, page views, clicks and cart events, and behaviour moments found, plus the date of the oldest data. It also shows the share of consenting visitors being measured and recorded right now.
- Every detail, by type: open a section to see each piece of information, why it’s needed and an example. The sections are Visits, Pages viewed, Clicks and taps, Scrolling and attention, Form use, Cart and checkout, Speed and errors, Session recordings, and Insights Heatwave works out. Turn on Show technical names if you or your developer want to see the exact field names.
- Your controls: hide parts of your pages in replays, turn tracking off on some pages, measure and record fewer visitors, and delete everything. Open privacy settings takes you to Settings.
- For your privacy policy: suggested wording with a Copy text button. See Privacy and consent.
How long data is kept
| Plan | Data kept for |
|---|---|
| Free | 30 days |
| Starter | 90 days |
| Growth | 365 days |
| Pro | 365 days |
Visitor data older than that is deleted automatically. A longer retention after an upgrade applies to data collected from the day you upgrade.
Delete all collected data
- Go to Settings > Your data.
- Click Delete all collected data…
- Type
DELETEto confirm. - Click Delete everything.
This permanently deletes every heatmap, recording, behaviour log and recommendation for your store. It can’t be undone. Tracking keeps running afterwards with a clean slate. This month’s plan usage isn’t reset by deleting data.
When you uninstall
- Tracking stops immediately.
- 48 hours after you uninstall, Shopify sends Heatwave a request to erase your store’s data.
- Heatwave then deletes everything held for your store: visit data, recordings, page pictures, behaviour patterns, AI recommendations and your settings.
Data requests from your shoppers
Shopify lets your customers ask to see or delete their data, and passes those requests on to apps. Heatwave handles them automatically.
Heatwave’s data is anonymous. Nothing is stored by Shopify customer ID, name, email address or other contact details, and personal details are hidden or removed before they’re stored. So there is no data Heatwave can link to a particular customer, and nothing to return or delete for a single person. A shopper who wants to stop being tracked can decline analytics in your cookie banner or turn on Global Privacy Control in their browser.
If you receive a request directly and have questions, contact support@wearepixelfox.com.
